Bucktown Dock

MSMM Engineering, LLC embarks on a transformative project to design and construct a state-of-the-art transient boat dock and commercial fishing dock at Bucktown Harbor, addressing critical infrastructure needs and enhancing local maritime operations. The project is segmented into three pivotal tasks: the Transient Boat Dock & Service Area, the Pump Out Facility and Permitting, and the Commercial Fishing Laydown Yard.
Utilizing advanced civil engineering techniques, the design incorporates an L-shaped configuration for the transient dock, employing Permatrac technology for robust composite concrete decking in commercial zones and non-slip composite wood surfaces for public areas. The design process involves comprehensive dredging, detailed hydrographic and topographic surveys, and the integration of a hard surface area to facilitate smooth transitions from Coast Guard Drive to the dock. This intricate planning ensures the dock not only meets operational efficiencies but also withstands environmental stresses, enhancing longevity and safety.
One significant challenge involves managing the complex permitting process across multiple agencies, including the Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). MSMM Engineering navigates this by deploying an expert permit coordination team, ensuring compliance and timely approval of all construction activities. Additionally, the environmental impact of dredging and construction activities poses another challenge. MSMM addresses this through meticulous environmental analysis and adopting sustainable practices that minimize ecological disruption.
The project not only promises enhanced marine and commercial facilities but also significantly contributes to the local economy by boosting tourism and supporting the commercial fishing industry. Upon completion, the Bucktown Marina Transient Boat Dock is poised to become a pivotal maritime gateway, reflecting MSMM Engineering’s commitment to technical excellence and community values in civil infrastructure development.
